Expressive Life Drawing

Starts Thursday 29th October, 6-8pm, every week for 6 weeks, last class 3rd December, at Toi Poneke Arts Centre, Abel Smith St, Wellington.

Learn to draw, or hone your skills with new, surprising and fun exercises. We generate a wide variety of marks and approaches to drawing, diving in and covering our pages with new experiments and trials. We bring these techniques to the body, drawing a model, and also working with more abstract approaches. You will produce vibrant and exciting drawings, and lots of them!

We cover: gesture drawing, extended gesture, composition, selection of work, reflection on our processes, and much more!

– $295.00 materials and model fees included

Class hold 12 people with easels for all, wonderful models, and as always, expressive, exciting exercises.

FULL – The anti-perfectionism lockdown recovery sessions

I have been asking people how they found lockdown, and people have responded, talking about feeling constricted, going inwards, and the changes in time. Our routines changed, support networks altered, and many of us are still feeling the effects of so much change.

So much to process! So here’s my offer:

A series of 4 creative workshops to get together, connect and explore through anti-perfectionist, expressive drawing and writing. Lets make a mess, get moving on the page, and enjoy some time together! Let’s talk, share, and see how things have been going, through making some things.

Everything is moving so fast, so these sessions will provide an opportunity to slow down, reflect, and share. Whatever speed you’re moving at is all good, whatever feelings you’re having, are welcome. The page is your space, to explore and see.

We will use a variety of materials, and techniques that are accessible to all, regardless of experience. The environment created will be a fun, supportive and safe place with  a sense of community and connection.

Workshops will be held at Toi Poneke, in the community room, for 10 participants. Monday 27th July, 3rd August, 10th August, 6 – 8pm

The same exercises used in class will also be recorded separately in a podcast format and put on my art classes website, to be listened to at home. This will make them available to more people.

What people say about Siân:

Siân creates a space where people feel brave enough to use the platform (or the environment) she’s created to say what they think and they can trust that she will hear that and reflect that, in a way that strengthens their voice.” Workshop participant

“Your classes are utterly different to anything from books and more traditional classes. …Your leadership is outstanding and I was really glad to have the classes work like a unified team rather than a bunch of individuals.” Workshop participant

“Your accessible, warm and inspiring teaching reached each of our diverse group with intuition and intellect. You also kept us all on track!” Workshop participant
