What people say about class….

“I felt like I was in a safe, stress free place from the get go…”

“I really enjoyed your gentle approach at teaching and your ability to guide us through our journey by sharing techniques and ideas, rather than strict rules on how we are ‘meant to draw.’

“I have a new found joy in using charcoal as a way to connect with whanau and help with creative block.”

“enlightening, tranquil and engaging.”

Queer and trans drawing class – in person – Naenae, Lower Hutt at Cocopops.

Thursday nights – 6 – 8pm, starting 6th October, 6 weeks, once a week until 10th November

A queer and trans space for us to explore drawing . In my experience it can be a very powerful and liberating experience to represent ourselves and our communities, in our own ways. So I’d like to share this with you. Some of what we do will be expressive drawing, and some will be life drawing with a model.

We will all have different levels of experience and resources to share, and my aim is that we learn from each other, and all hold the space together with generosity, care and compassion. We will learn lots about drawing together in this class, but it is also about process, being together, and creating community. You don’t have to be able to draw, or have ever drawn before. Mistakes, and trying things out are just as valuable as a ‘good drawing’.

12 fully funded places – thank-you Creative Communities and Lower Hutt City Council! BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL

This class is suitable for all levels of drawing experience.

Sian Torrington has been drawing for well over a decade, and is interested in the place where abstraction and figurative drawing meets, to represent the embodied, living subject. She has taught at COCA for the last seven years, exhibited nationally and internationally, and works from a studio in Wellington.

Queer trans drawing class – ONLINE dates to be confirmed- applying for funding

“It gives a kind of courage. It’s like in the process something rises (mana comes) that drowns out inner critic or even being attached to the result… and then whatever it is, is beautiful. “

“I didn’t think I would enjoy being on zoom but it made it easier to come to class and the atmostphere was warm and welcoming, very different to work.”

I will run class from my home studio, and will have a live model there for 3 of our classes. We will share what we’re doing in pauses through the Zoom. I’ve been hearing how surprised people are how much they are enjoying our other online class, and that it still feels connective and nourishing. Message me with any questions if you’re not sure or want to know more 🙂
